The network will support the following requirements:
Internet access, web browsing, e-mail and file transfer
PC-based voice/fax over Internet services
Toll-quality VoIP services (optional)
Wireless and dial-up local loop connectivity from the POP (optional)
Managed server hosting at Europe (optional)
International voice and fax services (optional)
Above configuration and network components are all offered as part of the IP Broadway service. The specific functionality of the main components is outlined in the following. Please note that mail- and fileserver hosting is optional and part of the IP room service hosting concept.
Hub Infrastructure
The hub will handle traffic to/from the Internet backbone and the organisation sites. Traffic from the site is received from the satellite on a large antenna and via the hub system routed out on the Internet or the optional servers hosted in Europe. Return traffic from the Internet towards the ORGANISATION location is routed back to the hub and transmitted to the satellite from the same ground station.
Remote Infrastructure
At the organisation sites, data will be received and transmitted via the rooftop antenna and RF system. The antenna/RF is connected via coaxial cable to the high-speed modem and router placed inside customer premises. The Ethernet port on the router will interface the organisation local Network.
Internet Backbone
The service will be based on an Internet Backbone connection accessed at the hub site. This connection is provided by STM WIRELESS and can easily be upgraded as demand grows. STM WIRELESS SLA for the Internet connection will apply.
Server Hosting
One of the major obstacles to running e-business/ Internet systems is the provisioning and constant maintenance of the Internet/mail servers, which the Internet users assume to be part of an Internet subscription. The IP room service from the organisation fulfil that requirement in a managed package, which the Corporate Client(s) can brand and configure as an integrated part of the market offering.
The organisation IP room service will allow the organisation to access a designated mail-server. All hardware will be operated on the Windows 2000 Professional platform and the server will be equipped with a standard 18.2 GB SCSCI hard disk (other configurations optional). Hosting services include: Hardware and software lease, tape stations with back-up every working day, UPS (back-up power), maintenance and support.
The Organisations staff and client(s) will get their own mail account, which will appear under a domain name chosen by the organisation (e.g. www.yourcompany.com). Subject to backbones Acceptable Use Policy, The Organisation staff and client(s) can choose any name for their mail account as long as it is unique within the organisations domain (e.g. info@yourcompany.com).
Using the backbone customised web interface, the Organisation client can perform all aspects of management of their server. Including:
Creation and deletion of user accounts
Manage disk usage of individual accounts
Set mail forwarding for users
Set auto-responders for users
Post messages to individual users or groups of users
Block mail from selected external users and domains
The individual end-users will be able to send and retrieve their mail using standard mail clients (e.g. Outlook Express, Eudora etc.). In addition users can access their mail account using a customised web interface. This interface is customised with the corporations name and logo etc
The Internet backbone will be responsible for the server at web-server level and will not be responsible for any aspect of the file or user level.
